New Jerusalem
John sees the New Jerusalem descend, hears a voice from the skies and gives a number pointing at the same events recorded in scripture from a time when they happened before.
Revelation 21:1-8
1I saw new skies and a new land for the 1st skies and the 1st land had passed away and the sea was no more.
2I saw a holy city FA , the new Jerusalem, coming down from the skies from god prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. A 2 Corinthians 5:1
3I heard a great voice from the skies, saying, The tent of god is with the children of men: and he lives with them, and they will be his people and god himself is with them, and will be their god,
4and he will wipe away all tears from their eyes, 1|4 and there will not be death from now on, 2|4 nor sorrow, 3|4 nor wailing, 4|4 nor will there be pain again, for the former things have passed away.
Revelation 21:1-4FA 5He who sat on the throne said, I make all things new. Then he said to me, Write, for these are trustworthy and true words.
Revelation 21:56He said to me, I am Wa and Ta, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give freely from the fountain of the water of life.
7He who overcomes will inherit these things and I will be god to him and he will be a son to me,
8but as for the 1|9 fearful, 2|9 and unbelieving, 3|9 and evil, 4|9 and abominable, 5|9 and killers, 6|9 and sorcerers, 7|9 and fornicators, 8|9 and worshippers of idols, 9|9 and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the 2nd death. Exodus describes god descending upon a mountain, a voice that spoke aloud in the hearing of everyone, writing on tablets, and a blueprint for a tent that would be god's house so he could live among his people.
1In the 3rd month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Mizraim, on the same day, they came to the wilderness of Sin.
2They journeyed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai and they camped in the wilderness and there Israel camped before the mountain. I Isaiah 2:2
Exodus 19:1-23Moses went up to god. God called to him out of the mountain and said to him, Thus you will say to the house of Jacob and tell the children of Israel:
4You have seen FE what I did to the Mizraim and how I FE bore you as though you were on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.
5Now if from hearing you will hear my voice and preserve my contract you will be beloved to me from all peoples FE of the land because the land is mine.
6You will be to me a holy kingdom and priests and people. Speak these words to the house of Israel.
Exodus 19:3-67Moses came and called to the elders of the people and said in their presence all these words which the Master commanded him.
8All the people answered as 1 and said, All that the Master has spoken we will do. FE Moses returned the words of the people to the Master.
Exodus 19:7-89The Master said to Moses, I am coming to you FE in a thick cloud because the people will hear when I speak FE with you and FE also believe FE you to eternity. FE Moses told the words of the people before the Master.
Exodus 19:910The Master said to Moses, Go to the people and holy them today and tomorrow and let them wash their clothes. M Genesis 35:2
11Be ready by the 3rd day because on the 3rd day the Master will come down in the sight of all the people on the mount of Sinai.
FE 12You will publish a warning among the people saying, Be careful. Do not go up into the mountain nor draw near to the border of it. Whoever draws near to the mountain will be put to death.
13No hand will touch it, but he will surely be stoned and hurled down. Whether it be animal or man Q Hebrews 12:20, it will not live. When the trumpet is silent then you are permitted to ascend the mountain.
Exodus 19:10-1314Moses went down from the mountain to the people and made the people holy and they washed their clothes.
15He said to the people, Be ready on the 3rd day. Do not touch your wives.
Exodus 19:14-1516It came to pass on the 3rd day in the morning there were FE sounds and lightnings and a mighty cloud on the mountain and the sound of a trumpet that was very powerful and all the people trembled who were in the camp. Q Hebrews 12:21
17Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet god FE and they stood at the base of the mountain.
18The mount of Sinai was smoking entirely because the Master descended on it in fire and the smoke of it ascended like the smoke of a furnace and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
19The blast of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder. Moses spoke and god answered him by a sound.
Exodus 19:16-1920The Master came down to the mount of Sinai to the top of the mountain. The Master called Moses up to the top of the mountain and Moses went up.
21The Master said to Moses, Go down, warn the people lest they break through to the Master to gaze and many of them perish.
22Let the priests who come near to the Master also holy themselves lest the Master break forth on them.
Exodus 19:20-2223Moses said to the Master, The people cannot come up to the mount of Sinai, for you warned us saying, Set bounds about the mountain and holy it.
Exodus 19:2324The Master said to him, Hurry, go down and then come up, you and Aaron your brother with you, but do not let the priests nor the people break through to come up before the Master lest he kill them.

12The Master said to Moses, Come up to me to the mountain and be there and I will give to you the tablets of stone FE and the laws and the commandments which I have written to teach them. A Acts 7:38
Exodus 24:1213Moses rose up and his minister Hosea and Moses came up to the mount of god.
14He said to the elders, You wait here for us until we return to you. Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a problem will come before them.
Exodus 24:13-1415Moses came up to the mountain and the cloud covered him.
16The glory of the Master rested on the mount of Sinai and the cloud covered it for 6 days. On the 7th day the Master called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud.
17In the sight of all the children of Israel he saw the glory of the Master like a burning fire on the top of the mountain.
18Moses went into the middle of the cloud and went up to the mountain and Moses was on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights. Exodus 24:15-18 (Exodus 24:12-18 BRB)
These are all elements of John's vision of the New Jerusalem. The water to drink is also in Exodus, chapter 17, where the water gushed from the rock. Those thrown into the lake of fire appears to be the drowning of pharaoh and his hordes in the "Red Sea."
