New Jerusalem Measured

A man with a golden reed measures the New Jerusalem. The numbers point at the count of people in the book of Numbers, same as another story about measuring Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:15-17

15He who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold reed to measure the city and its gates and its wall. M Ezekiel 40:3 16The city was laid 4-square the length the same as the breadth. He measured the city with the reed, 12,000 stadia, and the length and breadth and height were equal. 17He measured the wall, 144 cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the king. Revelation 21:15-17 (Revelation 21:15-17 BRB)

Count

4+12000+144 = 12148 = Numbers

Numbers

The "measure" of the "city" in terms of the book of Numbers is the "count" of the people in the "camp" of Israel, a camp that surrounded the tent of god. That tent is already linked to the New Jerusalem in Revelation by another numeric cross reference, so it's not strange to find this cross reference landing on it. So too, the idea that measuring Jerusalem is actually a count of it's people is already established with another numeric cross reference from Zechariah that works exactly like this one.

FE 1The Master spoke with Moses in the wilderness of Sinai in the tent of time in the 1st day of the 2nd month in the 2nd year after the children of Israel came out of the land of Mizraim and said to him, 2Take a census of all the assembly of the children of Israel by their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls. 3From 20 years old and up, all who are able to go forth to war in Israel, you and Aaron your brother will number them, by their hosts. Numbers 1:1-15 (Numbers 1:1-3 BRB)
