Isaiah 1 Kings
Isaiah 9:8-10:4 covers the Building Solomon's Temple, Split
Kingdom, and Jeroboam's Change of Law stories in the book of 1 Kings.
8.1The Master has sent a word to Jacob
8.2and it has fallen on Israel.
9.1All the people will know,
9.2even Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria
9.3who say in pride
9.4and haughtiness of heart,
10.1We will lay bricks
10.2and hew stones.
10.3The wild fig trees are cut down,
10.4but we will exchange them for cedars. I 1 Kings 5:6
11.1Therefore the Master will cause the adversaries of Rezin to prevail against him
11.2and incite his enemies,
12.1Adam from the east and the Philistines from the west
12.2and they will devour Israel with open mouth. I 1 Kings 11:14
Isaiah 9:8-1212.3For all this his anger is not turned away,
12.4but his hand is stretched out still.
Isaiah 9:12.3-1213.1For the people did not turn to him until they were devoured,
13.2nor did they seek the Master of Hosts.
14.1Therefore the Master will cut off from Israel head and tail,
14.2tail and head, in 1 day. I 1 Kings 12:13
15.1The elder and honorable are the head
15.2and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail.
16.1For the leaders of this people will cause them to err
16.2and cause them to sink low.
17.1Therefore, the Master will have no joy in their young men
17.2nor will he have mercy on their orphans and widows, I 1 Kings 11:26
17.3for all of them are hypocrites and evildoers
17.4and every mouth speaks folly. I 1 Kings 12:28
Isaiah 9:13-1717.5For all this his anger is not turned away,
17.6but his hand is stretched out still.
Isaiah 9:17.5-1718.1For wickedness burns like the fire.
18.2It will devour the briers and thorns
18.3and will kindle in the thickets of the forest
18.4and the chosen ones will roll up like the lifting up of smoke.
19.1Through the rebuke of the Master of Hosts
19.2the land quakes
19.3and the people will be as the fuel of the fire
19.4and no man will spare his brother. I 1 Kings 13:1-3
20.1He will snatch on the right hand
20.2and be hungry
20.3and he will eat on the left hand
20.4and will not be satisfied.
20.5They will eat every man the flesh of his own kinsmen,
21.1Manasseh Ephraim and Ephraim Manasseh
21.2and they together will devJudah. I 1 Kings 14:30
Isaiah 9:18-2121.3For all this his anger is not turned away,
21.4but his hand is stretched out still. Isaiah 9:21.3-21
1.1Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees
1.2and who write unjust decrees
2.1to turn aside the needy from justice
2.2and to take away the right from the poor of my people
2.3that they may plunder the widows
2.4and that they may rob the fatherless. I 1 Kings 21:8
3.1What will you do in the day of repayment
3.2and in the storm which will come from far away?
3.3To whom will you flee for help?
3.4Where will you leave your glory?
4.1Without me you will bow down under the prisoners
4.2and you will fall under the killed. I 1 Kings 22:34-35
Isaiah 10:1-44.3For all this his anger is not turned away,
4.4but his hand is stretched out still. Isaiah 10:4.3-4 (Isaiah 9:8-10:4 BRB)
Isaiah says the sycamores are cut down, but we will
change them into cedars.
This aligns with Solomon building
the temple
(1 Kgs 6:7-9).
Isaiah says Yahvah will cause the adversaries of Rezin
to prevail against him.
This aligns with the many adversaries
that rose up against Solomon, both domestic and foreign
(1 Kgs 11:1-43).
Isaiah says Yahvah will cut off from Israel head and
tail, tail and head, in 1 day.
This aligns with the splitting
of Israel into two parts, North and South, when Rehoboam would
not listen to his elders
(1 Kgs 12:1-15).
Isaiah says Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees,
and who write unjust decrees; to turn aside the needy from justice
and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that they
may plunder the widows and that they may rob the fatherless.
This aligns with Jeroboam changing the laws in the North to keep
Israel from traveling to Judah to worship at the temple in Jerusalem
(1 Kgs 12:25-33).
