Isaiah Amos
Isaiah 21:11-22:25 and the book of Amos.
11The burden of Dumah: He called to me from Seir, Keeper, what of the night? Keeper, what of the night?
12The keeper says, The morning comes, and also the night; if you would inquire, inquire; you will come back again.
Isaiah 21:11-1213The burden of Arabia: In the evening you will lodge in the forest, in the highway of Dornim.
14Meet the thirsty, bring water, inhabitants of the land of the south. Meet those who are fleeing with your bread,
15for they have fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.
Isaiah 21:13-1516For thus said the Master to me, Within a year, according to the years of an employee, all the glory of Kedar will fail;
17and the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, will be diminished; for the Master god of Israel has spoken it. Isaiah 21:16-17
FE 1The burden of the valley of vision: What do you see here, that you are all gone up to the housetops?
2The city is full of tumult, the mighty city is full of noise; your killed men are not killed with the sword nor dead in battle.
3All your princes have fled together, they are surrounded by the archers; all that were found in you are bound together; they have fled to far off places.
4Therefore I said, Leave me alone, I will weep bitterly; do not trouble yourself to comfort me, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Isaiah 22:1-45For it is a day of trouble and of treading down and of weeping before the Master god of hosts in the valley of vision; they have surveyed the walls and shouted on the mountains.
6Elam bore the quiver with the chariots of men and horsemen and the shields were seen on the wall.
7It will come to pass that your choicest valleys will be full of chariots, and the horsemen will set themselves in array at the gates.
Isaiah 22:5-78The defenses of Judah will be laid bare, and you will see in that day the armour of the house of the forest.
9You have also seen the breaches of the city of David, that they are many; and you have gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
10You have supplied the houses of Jerusalem with water, and you have broken down the houses to fortify the walls.
11You made ditches between the 2 walls for the water of the old pool; but you have not looked to its maker, nor had respect for him who fashioned it long ago.
Isaiah 22:8-1112Called the Master god of hosts in that day to weeping and to mourning and to baldness and to girding with sackcloth;
13and joy and gladness, slaughtering oxen and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine; Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die. Q 1 Corinthians 15:32
Isaiah 22:12-1314It was revealed in my ears by the Master of hosts saying, Surely this iniquity will not be purged from you until you die, says the Master god of hosts.
Isaiah 22:1415Thus says the Master of hosts: Go, get to this treasurer, even to Shebna, who is over the house, and say to him,
16What do you do here? What have you here, that you have hewn a tomb for yourself, as he who hews for himself a tomb on high and carves a habitation for himself in a rock?
Isaiah 22:15-1617Man, the Master will surely cast you away, and will surely forsake you.
18He will afflict you like the affliction of a company of soldiers besieged in a fortress from which there is no escape; there you will die, and there the chariots of your glory will be the shame of the house of your master.
19I will take away your glory, and will cast you down from your position.
Isaiah 22:17-1920It will come to pass in that day, says the Master, I will call my servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah;
21and I will clothe him with your robe and will gird him with your belt, and I will commit your government into his hand; and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
22I will place on his shoulder the keys of the house of David; so he will open and no one will shut, and he will shut and no one will open.
23I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he will be for a glorious throne to his father's house.
24They will hang on him all the glory of his father's house, both the honorable men and the glorious men, and all small vessels, from instruments of music to the harp.
Isaiah 22:20-2425In that day, says the Master of hosts, the nail that is fastened in a sure place will be removed and be overthrown and fall; and the burden that was on it will be destroyed; for the Master has spoken it. Isaiah 22:25 (Isaiah 21:11-22:25 BRB)
Lament?
FE 1Hear this word which I take up concerning you, even a lamentation, house of Israel: Amos 5:1-2 (Amos 5:1 BRB)
Broken Walls?
FE 1Hear this word vicious men of Bashan, who are in the mount of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
2The Master of masters has sworn by his holiness, The days are coming on you when they will take you away with weapons and the last of you will be devoured.
3Every woman will run to the breach which is before her and they will be cast away to the mount of Armenia, says the Master. Amos 4:1-5 (Amos 4:1-3 BRB)
Sword?
10I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Mizraim; I killed your young men with the sword, together with the spoil of your horses; and I made the stench of your camps to come up to your nostrils; yet you did not return to me, says the Master. Amos 4:10 (Amos 4:10 BRB)
Grieve
3who wait for the evil day and cause the sabbath of violence to come near,
4who lie on beds of ivory and give themselves to pleasures on their couches and eat the fatlings from the flock and calves from the middle of the herd,
5who chant to the sound of the harp and consider themselves skilled in the musical instruments like David,
6who drink pure wine and anoint themselves with the finest perfumes but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. (Amos 6:3-6 BRB)
Captivity
16Now hear the word of the Master. You said, Do not prophesy over the house of Israel FE and do not teach those of the house of Isaac.
17Therefore, thus says the Master: FE your wife will play the prostitute in your own city and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword and your land will be divided by line and you yourself will die in a polluted land and Israel will surely be carried captive away from his land. Amos 7:17 (Amos 7:16-17 BRB)
David
11In that day I will raise up the tent of David that is fallen. I will close up its breaches. I will raise up its ruins. I will build it as the days of old and as the years of the generations.
12For they will inherit the remnant of Adam and all the peoples who are called by my name, says the Master who does this. Q Acts 15:16-17 A 2 Corinthians 6:6 Amos 9:11-12 (Amos 9:11-12 BRB)
