Isaiah Amos
Isaiah 21:11-22:25 and the book of Amos.
11.1The burden of Dumah:
11.2He called to me from Seir,
11.3Keeper, what of the night?
11.4Keeper, what of the night?
12.1The keeper says,
12.2The morning comes, and also the night;
12.3if you would inquire, inquire;
12.4you will come back again.
Isaiah 21:11-12 13.1The burden of Arabia:
13.2In the evening you will lodge in the forest,
13.3in the highway of Dornim.
14.1Meet the thirsty, bring water,
14.2inhabitants of the land of the south.
14.3Meet those who are fleeing with your bread,
15.1for they have fled from the swords,
15.2from the drawn sword,
15.3and from the bent bow,
15.4and from the grievousness of war.
Isaiah 21:13-1516For thus said the Master to me, Within a year, according to the years of an employee, all the glory of Kedar will fail;
17and the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, will be diminished; for the Master, the God of Israel, has spoken it. Isaiah 21:16-17
1.1The burden of the valley of vision:
1.2What do you see here,
1.3that you are all gone up to the housetops?
2.1The city is full of tumult,
2.2the mighty city is full of noise;
2.3your killed men are not killed with the sword
2.4nor dead in battle.
3.1All your princes have fled together,
3.2they are surrounded by the archers;
3.3all that were found in you are bound together;
3.4they have fled to far off places.
Isaiah 22:1-34.1Therefore, I said, Leave me alone,
4.2I will weep bitterly;
4.3do not trouble yourself to comfort me,
4.4because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,
5.1for it is a day of trouble and of treading down and of weeping
5.2before the Master God of Hosts,
5.3in the valley of vision;
5.4they have surveyed the walls
5.5and shouted on the mountains.
6.1Elam bore the quiver
6.2with the chariots of men and horsemen
6.3and the shields were seen on the wall.
7.1It will come to pass that your choicest valleys will be full of chariots,
7.2and the horsemen will set themselves in array at the gates.
Isaiah 22:4-78.1The defenses of Judah will be laid bare,
8.2and you will see in that day
8.3the armor of the house of the forest.
9.1You have also seen the breaches of The City of David,
9.2that they are many;
9.3and you have gathered together the waters
9.4of the lower pool.
10.1You have supplied the houses of Jerusalem with water,
10.2and you have broken down the houses to fortify the walls.
11.1You made ditches between the 2 walls
11.2for the water of the old pool;
11.3but you have not looked to its maker,
11.4nor had respect for him who fashioned it long ago.
Isaiah 22:8-1112.1The Master God of Hosts called
12.2in that day
12.3to weeping and to mourning
12.4and to baldness and to girding with sackcloth;
13.1and, behold, joy and gladness,
13.2slaughtering oxen and killing sheep,
13.3eating meat and drinking wine;
13.4Let us eat and drink,
13.5for tomorrow we will die. Q 1 Corinthians 15:32
Isaiah 22:12-13 14It was revealed in my ears by the Master of Hosts, saying, Surely this iniquity will not be purged from you until you die, says the Master God of Hosts.
Isaiah 22:14 15.1Thus says the Master of Hosts:
15.2Go, get to this treasurer, even to Shebna,
15.3who is over the house, and say to him,
16.1What do you do here? What have you here,
16.2that you have hewn a tomb for yourself,
16.3as he who hews for himself a tomb on high
16.4and carves a habitation for himself in a rock?
Isaiah 22:15-1617.1Man, the Master will surely cast you away,
17.2and will surely forsake you.
18.1He will afflict you like the affliction of a company of soldiers
18.2besieged in a fortress from which there is no escape;
18.3there you will die,
18.4and there the chariots of your glory
18.5will be the shame of the house of your master.
19.1I will take away your glory,
19.2and will cast you down from your position.
Isaiah 22:17-1920It will come to pass in that day, says the Master, I will call my servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah;
21and I will clothe him with your robe and will gird him with your belt, and I will commit your government into his hand; and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
22I will place on his shoulder the keys of the house of David; so he will open and no one will shut, and he will shut and no one will open.
23I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he will be for a glorious throne to his father's house.
24They will hang on him all the glory of his father's house, both the honorable men and the glorious men, and all small vessels, from instruments of music to the harp.
Isaiah 22:20-2425In that day, says the Master of Hosts, the nail that is fastened in a sure place will be removed and be overthrown and fall; and the burden that was on it will be destroyed; for the Master has spoken it. Isaiah 22:25 (Isaiah 21:11-22:25 BRB)
Lament?
1Hear this word which I take up concerning you, even a lamentation, house of Israel: Amos 5:1-2 (Amos 5:1 BRB)
Broken Walls?
1.1Hear this word vicious men of Bashan, who are in the mount of Samaria,
1.2who oppress the poor, who crush the needy,
1.3who say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
2.1The Master of Masters has sworn by his holiness,
2.2The days are coming on you
2.3when they will take you away with weapons
2.4and the last of you will be devoured.
3.1Every woman will run to the breach
3.2which is before her
3.3and they will be cast away to the mount of Armenia, says the Master. Amos 4:1-5 (Amos 4:1-3 BRB)
Sword?
10.1I have sent among you the pestilence
10.2after the manner of Mizraim;
10.3I killed your young men with the sword,
10.4together with the spoil of your horses;
10.5and I made the stench of your camps to come up to your nostrils;
10.6yet you did not return to me, says the Master. Amos 4:10 (Amos 4:10 BRB)
Grieve
3.1who wait for the evil day
3.2and cause the sabbath of violence to come near,
4.1who lie on beds of ivory
4.2and give themselves to pleasures on their couches
4.3and eat the fatlings from the flock
4.4and calves from the middle of the herd,
5.1who chant to the sound of the harp
5.2and consider themselves skilled in the musical instruments like David,
6.1who drink pure wine
6.2and anoint themselves with the finest perfumes
6.3but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. (Amos 6:3-6 BRB)
Captivity
16.1Now hear the word of the Master. You said,
16.2Do not prophesy over the house of Israel
16.3and do not teach those of the house of Isaac.
17.1Therefore, thus says the Master:
17.2your wife will play the prostitute in your own city
17.3and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword
17.4and your land will be divided by line
17.5and you yourself will die in a polluted land
17.6and Israel will surely be carried captive
17.7away from his land. Amos 7:17 (Amos 7:16-17 BRB)
David
11.1In that day
11.2I will raise up the tent of David that is fallen. S Isaiah 55:3
11.3I will close up its breaches.
11.4I will raise up its ruins.
11.5I will build it as the days of old
11.6and as the years of the generations.
12.1For they will inherit the remnant of Adam
12.2and all the peoples who are called by my name,
12.3says the Master who does this. Q Acts 15:16-17 A 2 Corinthians 6:6 Amos 9:11-12 (Amos 9:11-12 BRB)
