Isaiah Mark
Isaiah 42:10-25 and the Gospel of Mark.
10.1Sing to the Master a new song,
10.2and his praise from the ends of the land,
10.3you who go down to the sea and all that is in it;
10.4the islands and those who live in them.
11.1Let the wilderness and its towns rejoice;
11.2let Kedar be meadows;
11.3let the inhabitants of the steep rocks sing,
11.4let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12.1Let them give glory to the Master
12.2and declare his praise in the islands.
13.1The Master will go forth as a mighty man,
13.2he will stir up zealousness like a man of war;
13.3he will shout and become valiant;
13.4he will kill his enemies.
Isaiah 42:10-1314.1I have for a long time held my peace;
14.2I have kept silent, I have been patient
14.3like a woman in travail;
14.4I have remained speechless and completely confounded.
15.1I will lay waste mountains and hills,
15.2and dry up all their herbs;
15.3and I will make the rivers islands,
15.4and I will dry up the pools.
16.1I will lead the blind by a way that they do not know;
16.2and in the paths that they have not known I will make them walk;
16.3I will make darkness light before them,
16.4and crooked places straight.
16.5These things I have done to them
16.6and have not forsaken them.
17.1They will be turned back, they will be greatly ashamed,
17.2who trust in graven images,
17.3who say to molten images, You are our Gods.
Isaiah 42:14-17 18.1Hear, deaf.
18.2Understand and see, blind.
19.1Who is blind but my servant?
19.2Who is deaf as the king that I send?
19.3Who is blind as the ruler?
19.4Who is blind like the servant of the Master?
20.1I gave you counsel, but you did not preserve it;
20.2I opened your ears, but you did not hear.
21.1The Master is well pleased,
21.2for his righteousness' sake
21.3he will magnify the law and make it honorable.
22.1But this is a people robbed and oppressed;
22.2all the young men are snared,
22.3and they are hidden in prison houses;
22.4they have become prey,
22.5and there is no one to deliver;
22.6and trampled on,
22.7and there is no one to restore.
Isaiah 42:18-2223.1Who among you will give ear to this?
23.2Who will listen to the other counsel?
24.1Who gave Jacob to be trod under foot
24.2and Israel as spoil?
24.3Was it not the Master,
24.4because we have sinned against him?
24.5For we would not walk in his ways,
24.6nor were we obedient to his law.
25.1Therefore he has poured on them the fury of his anger
25.2and the fierceness of battle;
25.3and it has set them on fire all around, yet they did not know it;
25.4and it burned them, yet they did not lay it to heart. Isaiah 42:23-25 (Isaiah 42:10-25 BRB)
Isaiah says Yahvah will lead the blind by a way that they
do not know. This matches Jesus healing the blind man.
1: Tribe of Judah (Continued)22He came to Beth-Saida and they brought to him a blind man and they begged him to touch him.
23He took the blind man by the hand and brought him outside the town and he spat on his eyes and put his hands on him and asked him what he saw.
24He looked and said, I see men walking like trees.
Mark 8:22-2425Again he put his hands over his eyes, and he was restored and saw everything clearly.
26He sent him to his house, saying, Do not even enter into the town, nor tell it to anyone in the town. Mark 8:25-26 (Mark 8:22-26 BRB)
Isaiah says Yahvah opened his servant's ears, but he did
not understand. This matches Peter's misunderstanding.
27Joshua went out and his disciples to the towns of Caesarea of Philippi and on the road he asked his disciples saying to them, Who do men say that I am?
Mark 8:2728They said, John the baptist and others Elijah yet others 1 of the prophets.
Mark 8:2829.1Joshua said to them, But you, who do you say I am?
Mark 8:2929.2Simeon answered, saying to him, You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.
Mark 8:29.2-2930He warned them not to tell any man about him.
Mark 8:30 31He began to teach them that the Son of Man would have to suffer much and be rejected by the elders and the high priests and the scribes and be killed and rise again on the 3rd day.
Mark 8:3132He spoke that word openly so Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33But he turned around and looked on his disciples and rebuked Simeon saying, Get behind me accuser, for you are not thinking of the things of God but of men. Mark 8:32-33 (Mark 8:27-33 BRB)
Isaiah says this people is robbed and oppressed. This matches
Jesus' words about gaining the whole world at the expense of your
life.
34Joshua called the people together with his disciples and said to them, He who wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
35For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for my sake and the sake of my thinking will save it.
36For how could a man be benefited if he should gain the whole world and lose his life
37or what could a man give in exchange for his life?
38Therefore, whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this sinful and adulterous generation the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with his holy kings. Mark 8:34-38 (Mark 8:34-38 BRB)
