Isaiah 2 Kings
Isaiah 10:5-34 covers the Assyrian Captivity, and
Deliverance of Jerusalem stories in the book of 2 Kings.
5Ho, Assyrian. The rod of my anger and the staff in their hand is my indignation.
6I will send him against a hypocritical people and against a wrathful people I will give him a charge to take captives and to take spoil and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. I 2 Kings 17:6
7But he does not look so nor does his heart think so, but it is in his heart to destroy and annihilate not a few peoples. I 2 Kings 18:13
8For he says, Are my princes not altogether kings?
9Is Calno not like Carchemish? Is Hamath not like Arpad? Is Samaria not like Damascus?
10As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols and whose graven images excelled those of Jerusalem and of Samaria,
11as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so I will do to Jerusalem and her idols. I 2 Kings 18:33-35
Isaiah 10:5-1112Therefore it will come to pass when the Master has performed his whole work in the mount of Zion and in Jerusalem I 2 Kings 19:35 I will punish the fruit of the proud heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of his pride. I 2 Kings 19:37
13For he has said: By the strength of my hand I have done it and by my wisdom, for I am prudent and I have removed the boundaries of the peoples and I have plundered their wealth and subjugated the inhabited cities
14and my hand has found like a nest the riches of the peoples and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken I have gathered all the land and there was no one who moved a wing nor opened the mouth nor chirped.
Isaiah 10:12-1415Will the ax boast itself over him who hews with it or will the saw magnify itself over him who saws with it or will a rod exalt itself over him who lifts it up?
16Therefore the Master god of hosts will send destruction on his rich ones and instead of his glory he will kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
17The light of Israel will be for a fire and his holy one for a flame and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in 1 day.
18It will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful fields, both soul and body will perish, and they will be as if they never had been.
19The rest of the trees of his forest will be so few that a child may write them down.
Isaiah 10:15-1920It will come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel and those who have escaped from the house of Jacob will not trust any longer in him who struck them, but they will trust in the Master the holy one of Israel in truth.
21The remnant will return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty god.
22For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, P Genesis 32:12 yet a remnant of them will return, their number decreased, cut off, but flooded with righteousness.
23For the Master of hosts will bring destruction and make decrees throughout all the land. Q Romans 9:27-28
Isaiah 10:20-2324Thus says the Master of hosts: My people that live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian who will strike you with his rod and will lift up his staff against you after the manner of Mizraim. I Isaiah 37:6
25For yet a very little while and my indignation will be accomplished and my anger because of their destruction.
Isaiah 10:24-2526The Master of hosts will stir up a scourge against them according to the slaughter of Midian at the mount of Horeb. As his staff was on the sea so he will lift it up after the manner of Mizraim.
27It will come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from off your shoulder and his yoke from off your neck and the yoke will be destroyed from your neck because of your strength.
Isaiah 10:26-2728He has come to Aiath. He has passed Migron. At Micmash he has laid up his supplies.
29They have gone over the passage of Geba to Beth Bethan. Ramah is afraid. Geba of Saul has fled.
30Lift up your voice daughter of Gallim. Give ear Laishah. Answer me, Anathoth.
31Madmenah has been removed. The inhabitants of Gebin are resisting.
32As yet he will remain at Nob that day. He will beckon his hand against the mountain of the daughter of Zion and against the hill of Jerusalem.
Isaiah 10:28-3233The Master, sovereign of hosts, will overthrow the glorious ones with might and the high ones of stature will be humbled and the haughty will be brought down.
34He will cut down the thickets of the forest with iron and Lebanon with its glory will fall. Isaiah 10:33-34 (Isaiah 10:5-34 BRB)
Isaiah says Ho, Assyrian. The rod of my anger, and the
staff in their hand is my indignation. I will send him against
a hypocritical nation, and against a wrathful people I will
give him a charge, to take captives and to take spoil and to
tread them down like the mire of the streets.
This aligns
with the Assyrian overthrow of Samaria in Second Kings
(2 Kgs 17).
Isaiah says as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so
I will do to Jerusalem and her idols.
This aligns with
Yahvah saying, through the prophet Isaiah, that the Assyrian
has blasphemed Yahvah
(2 Kgs 19:5-7).
Isaiah says Will the ax boast itself over him who hews
with it?
This aligns with the Assyrian wanting to cut down
the cedars
(2 Kgs 19:20-28)
Isaiah says It will come to pass in that day that the
remnant of Israel, and those who have escaped from the house
of Jacob, will not trust any longer in him who struck them;
but they will trust in Yahvah, the holy one of Israel, in
truth.
This aligns with the remnant that is left
(2 Kgs 19:29-31).
Isaiah says It will come to pass in that day, that his
burden will be taken away from off your shoulder and his yoke
from off your neck.
This aligns with Yahvah saying the
Assyrian will leave
(2 Kgs 19:32-34).
Isaiah says Look, Yahvah, sovereign of hosts, will
overthrow the glorious ones with might; and the high ones of
stature will be humbled, and the haughty will be brought down.
This aligns with the angel of Yahvah slaying 185,000 Assyrians
(2 Kgs 19:35-37).
