Isaiah 3 John
Isaiah chapter 65:1-16 covers the Gaius Receiving the
Brothers passage in the epistle of 3 John.
1.1I am sought by those who did not ask for me;
1.2I am found by those who did not seek;
1.3I said, Here I am, here I am,
1.4to a people that has never called my name. Q Romans 10:20
2.1I have spread out my hands all day
2.2to a rebellious people,
2.3who walk in a way that is not good,
2.4after their own thoughts,
3.1a people who provoke me to anger continually, Q Romans 10:21
3.2who sacrifice in the gardens
3.3and burn incense on altars of bricks;
4.1who sit in tombs and lodge in caves,
4.2who eat swine's flesh and defile their vessels with carcasses;
4.3to break the law and to make unclean the holy contract,
4.4that they may provoke the Master,
5.1who say, Keep away, do not come near me;
5.2for I am holy.
5.3These men are a smoke in my anger,
5.4a fire that burns all the day.
Isaiah 65:1-56.1It is written before me,
6.2I will not keep silent until I repay them
6.3a double portion into their embrace.
7.1Their sins and the sins of their fathers
7.2are well known, says the Master,
7.3for they have burned incense on the mountains
7.4and disgraced me on the hills;
7.5therefore I will measure their former works
7.6into their embrace.
Isaiah 65:6-78.1Thus says the Master:
8.2As the new wine is found in the cluster,
8.3and one says to another, Do not destroy it,
8.4for a blessing is in it;
8.5so I will do for my servant's sake,
8.6and I will not destroy them all.
9.1I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob
9.2and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains.
9.3My chosen will inherit it
9.4and my servants will live there.
10.1Sharon will be a fold for flocks,
10.2and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down
10.3for my people who have sought me.
Isaiah 65:8-1011.1But as for you who have forsaken the Master
11.2and have forgotten his holy mountain,
11.3who prepare tables for fortune tellers
11.4and have poured out wine into bowls for them,
12.1I will deliver you up to the sword,
12.2and all of you will bow down to the slaughter,
12.3because when I called, you did not answer;
12.4when I spoke, you did not listen;
12.5and you did evil in my presence,
12.6and chose the thing in which I do not delight. S Isaiah 66:4 S Jeremiah 7:13-14
Isaiah 65:11-1213.1Therefore, thus says the Master God:
13.2My servants will eat,
13.3but you will be hungry;
13.4my servants will drink,
13.5but you will be thirsty;
13.6my servants will rejoice,
13.7but you will weep;
14.1my servants will sing
14.2for joy of heart,
14.3but you will complain
14.4for sorrow of heart
14.5and for vexation of spirit.
15.1You will leave your name
15.2for a curse to my chosen ones,
15.3for the Master God will slay you
15.4and call his servants by another name;
16.1so that he who blesses himself in the land
16.2will bless himself in the God of truth;
16.3and he who swears in the land
16.4will swear by the God of truth;
16.5because the former troubles are forgotten,
16.6and because they are hidden from my presence. Isaiah 65:13-16 (Isaiah 65:1-16 BRB)
Isaiah says who say, Keep away, do not come near me;
for I am sanctified.
This aligns with Diotrephes putting
people out of the church
(3 John 1:9-10).
Isaiah says Look, it is written before me, I will not
keep silent until I repay them a double portion into their
embrace.
This likely aligns with the author stating that
when he comes he will deal with Diotrephes
(3 John 1:10)
(3 John 1:13-14).
Isaiah says I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and
out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains; my elect will inherit
it and my servants will live there. And Sharon will be a fold
for flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to
lie down for my people who have sought me.
This aligns with
Gaius and the others who were put out of the church for receiving
the brothers, i.e., giving them sheep a place to rest
(3 John 1:5-8)
(3 John 1:9-10).
