Isaiah Titus
Isaiah 64:4-12 covers the Paul's Preaching, and Appointment
of Elders passages in the epistle of Titus.
4.1For since the beginning of the world men have not heard
4.2nor perceived by the ear,
4.3nor has the eye seen, God, any besides you,
4.4because of what you do for those who wait for you. Q 1 Corinthians 2:9
5.1You meet with joy him who works righteousness,
5.2those who remember you in your ways;
5.3you are angry;
5.4for we have transgressed against your ways,
5.5yet we will be saved.
6.1For we have all become like an unclean thing,
6.2and all our righteousness is like filthy rags;
6.3we all fall off like leaves;
6.4and our iniquities, like the whirlwind, have taken us away.
7.1There is no one who calls on your name,
7.2that remembers to take hold of you;
7.3for you have turned away your face from us,
7.4and have delivered us into the power of our sins.
8.1But now, Master, you are our Father;
8.2we are the clay, and you our potter;
8.3and we are all the work of your hand.
9.1Do not be very angry, Master,
9.2nor remember our sins forever;
9.3see, we are all your people.
10.1Your holy cities have become a wilderness,
10.2Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
11.1Our holy and beautiful house, where our fathers praised you,
11.2is consumed with fire;
11.3and all our pleasant possessions are laid waste.
12.1Because of these things you have restrained yourself, Master,
12.2and held your peace, and afflicted us very severely. Isaiah 64:8-12 (Isaiah 64:4-12 BRB)
Isaiah says since the beginning of the world men have
not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen,
god, any besides you.
This aligns with a similar reference
at the beginning of Titus where Paul talks about things promised
ages ago were brought to light by his preaching
(Titus 1:1-3).
Isaiah says Your holy cities have become a wilderness.
This likely aligns with the way Titus was instructed to appoint
elders "city by city"
(Titus 1:5).
